How to Get Started
1. Go to the sign up page:
http://dotsx2.usc.edu:3003/sessions/new
We won’t spam you. We’ll just share updates and ideas as the Library of the Future contest progresses.
2. Assemble your team. Each group must consist of two to four students who are now and will be actively enrolled in October, 2007. Each team also must include members from at least two academic disciplines. For example, if you have a two-member team, you can have one engineering student and one architecture major, but not two engineering students. If you have a team of three, you can have two English majors and a business major, but not three English majors.
Keep checking www.usc.edu/libraries/future for helpful links and teambuilding ideas.
3. Speculate, predict, and envision. The content of your entry is limited only in that it must address the form, technology, and social aspects of the library of the future. The format must be a three-minute (maximum) multimedia presentation.
You can illustrate. You can animate still photographs. You can use full-motion, live-action video. You can use computer-generated graphics. The only requirement is that your final entry must be submitted to the panel in the form of a digital-video file playable on a standard Mac or PC.
The USC Libraries have many tools at your disposal to help create your entry, including digital-video cameras, sound equipment, and other tools available through the Leavey Library Multimedia Commons. Between now and September, we'll let you know about additional resources your team can use to build your presentation.
4. Finish by the deadline. Your entry must be submitted by September 28, 2007 to allow our panel time to choose finalists for the Parents Weekend ceremony. On Parents Weekend, three finalist teams will present their entries in person and answer questions from the panel, who will choose the winning team immediately following the presentations.
5. Enjoy the prizes and add "Winner of the USC Libraries Library of the Future Contest" to your resume. First place is an all-expenses-paid trip for four to the USC-Cal Berkeley weekender game. And yes, if your team has only two members, you still win a trip for four. Second- and third-place cash prizes remain to be determined.
