Alliance is a communist party organizing in the USA and Canada. It was formed in 1989 to promote principled, non-sectarian communist unity, the movement now being fractured into many currents and parties. Unity should be based on basic agreement and honest debate about the lessons of the past and goals for the future. We also advocate creating broad united fronts of those who oppose the Obama Administration and its wars.

11/8 – There are several anniversaries this weekend. November 7, 1917 the Bolsheviks drove out the Kerensky government, putting all power in the hands of the Soviets and beginning the socialist stage of the Russian Revolution. November 8, 1941 the Communist Party of Albania, later renamed the Party of Labor of Albania, was founded by merging three regional communist groups, while Albania was occupied by fascist Italy. Under the leadership of Enver Hoxha (born October 16, 1908), Albania fought the revisionism that gained power in the USSR and the rest of Europe in the 50’s and 60’s, and later exposed Chinese revisionism. Counterrevolution still triumphed in Albania, but the PLA has re-formed. I think the 8th is also the anniversary of the death of VM Molotov.

The Berlin Wall was broken on November 9, 1989, and ironically Stalin was probably for reunifying Germany, but was opposed by the East Germans. The BBC has been crowing about “Europe’s Revolution.” To a revolutionary communist, those events don't have the power the BBC thinks, because the governments that were toppled were led by revisionists, presiding over capitalistic economies. In the USSR, the leadership decided it no longer needed to pretend to be socialist, while China has kept up the sham that it is a socialist country led by a communist party. The European "Socialist Bloc" was toppled from within or fatally weakened by revisionists and the influence of Gorbachev. To call counterrevolution a collapse is to buy the lie that capitalism, and not just any capitalism, but "free market" neoliberal capitalism, is the natural order of the world. Ironically, in many of these countries there is wide nostalgia for the past (of course decried as a result of lack of education and desire for faded glory by the UK's radio propaganda).

The end of the Cold War has not frozen history, and class conflict is spontaneous and inevitable under capitalism, and won't end because the capitalist media says it has. Contrast the change in the revolutionary USSR and Albania with the fraud of Obama. The Bolsheviks got Russia out of WWI, while Obama continues all of Bush's occupations and sanctions and is widening the war in Pakistan, may attack Iran, covers up torture, and continues the attacks on Palestine, Cuba, and other countries, as well as Bush secrecy. We face an economic crisis, and Obama helps the companies that caused it to get richer, while unemployment rises and credit dries up. The Democrats' idea of health insurance reform is to help the private insurers get more customers, and their idea of fighting climate change is making carbon pollution another way to get rich, without doing much about greenhouse gas emissions. The US desperately needs to find its communist party and socialist revolution, while the supposedly socialist countries that suffer under revisionism need to renew their revolutions, watering the tree of liberty with revolutionary blood if necessary, not follow their Gorbachevs and Yeltsins to capitalist poverty, autocracy or basically meaningless elections (like ours in the USA), and subservience to foreign and domestic imperialism.

10/8 – It turns out that the old website (www.allianceml.com) was grabbed by a trading company when there was a lapse in payment, so we will have to set up a new site. The files are still on the server, but the links will have to be changed. If you have HTML skills and want to help, let us know.

8/20 – This meeting might be of interest to Indian comrades -

MEETING TO COMMEMORATE THE LIFE AND WORK OF

MONI GUHA

29 September 1914 to 7th April 2009

on

Saturday, 19th September 2009

Between 10.00 AM and 5.00 PM

at

GANDHI PEACE FOUNDATION,
221/223 Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi - 110 002.

Nishant Natya Manch will be singing a selection of revolutionary songs and the
meeting will conclude with a screening of the classic Soviet silent film on
collectivisation “EARTH” (1930) directed by Olexandr Dovzhenko. This is
considered one of the leading films of all time.

Moni Guha was a veteran communist revolutionary whose political activity spanned
more than eighty years coming into contact with the titans of the movement such
as M.N.Roy, Muzaffar Ahmad, Abdul Halim, B.T.Ranadive, Charu Majumdar, and Nagi
Reddy. He was amongst the first in India to oppose the 20th Congress of the CPSU
within weeks of its being held. Later he was to spearhead the critique of the
theory of three worlds. He was a stern critic of revisionism and
left-sectarianism and the author of a large number of writings many of which are considered classics of contemporary Marxism.

The meeting is supported by Manoranjan Mohanty, Nirmalangshu Mukherji, Subodh
Mitra, Ranjit Singh, Sunil Sengupta, Timir Basu, Ashim Roy, Shamsul Islam,
Gautam Sen, Subhendu Ghosh, C.N. Subramanian, Tripta Wahi, Malem Ningthouja,

7/4 – Today is the anniversary of the USA's Declaration of Independence in 1776, during one of the first modern national liberation wars and the USA's bourgeois democratic revolution, to replace feudal political structures with structures reflecting the growing economic power of the capitalist class. It was a progressive step forward, although it left slavery intact in most states and denied the rights of native peoples and women. Today it is long past time for the second, socialist stage of the American Revolution, to overthrow the spent and dull hegemony of the finance capitalists and new robber barons and put the exploited working class in charge. This era marks the beginning of the end for class exploitation and imperialism, the real change to believe in.

6/15 – Update on the website – It seems to be a bureaucratic problem with the provider rather than political, so we hope to have allianceml.com back online soon.

5/1 – Today is May Day, the revolutionary labor day celebrated around the world. International Workers' Day began in Chicago in the 1880s.

The great Indian communist Moni Guha died April 7th. He opposed Khrushchev's counterrevolutionary revisionism within weeks of the CPSU's 20th Congress, and was one of the first to oppose China's Three Worlds theory. For more, see www.revolutionarydemocracy.org. Our condolences go to his family and comrades.

AML is still using the website below, but the articles have not been reloaded yet.

3/17 – Updates to the website have been delayed because we are having a problem with the provider. The main page (only) is online, at harikumar.brinkster.net.

The anniversary of the imperialist aggression against Iraq is coming up, and there will be a march in Washington to the Pentagon. If anyone wants to meet up, I plan to be there.

Don't let Obama get away with continuing the occupations, backing Israeli imperialism (among others), and funding war and bailouts for the exploiters!

1/2/2009 – Plans are in the works, so check the website and this page for updates over the next few months.

2009 comes in with the USA still occupying Afghanistan and Iraq, Israel attacking Gaza, immigrants' rights violated in the US, taxpayer money going to the unaccountable banks and car companies, union-busting, climate change, and more. The American and Canadian peoples are joining the world in fighting the atrocities in the Middle East and the class struggle, but until a revolutionary proletarian party is consolidated, and an international formed, the resistance is mostly stop gap.

December 21st was the anniversary of Stalin's birth. More recently he came in 3rd in the unscientific online hero of Russia poll. I think he was only a few thousand votes behind the winner, despite the efforts of the organizers to prevent Stalin from being the pick.

11/8 – This is the anniversary of the Great October Socalist Revolution of 1917, when the Bolsheviks led the Russian working class to overthrow the bourgeois democratic government set up earlier that year. It was the first revolution to establish a lasting workers' government and socialism. The revolution was like a flare signalling the approaching end of capitalist exploitation, though there have been highs and lows since then, and provides many lessons for revolutionary communists today. It is called the October Revolution, because Russia used a different calendar at the time. To learn more, see the History of the CPSU(B), online at www.marx2mao.com under Other, and Ten Days that Shook the World.

Today is also the anniversary of the passing in 1986 of the great Bolshevik VM Molotov, a leader in the 1917 revolution.

10/7 – The 100th anniversary of the great Albanian communist Enver Hoxha's birth October 16th, 1908 is coming up. The Turkish Labor Party (www.emep.org) set up a Hoxha group and asked Alliance to help spread the word, so here is the link:

Also, I recently heard that Stalin is 2nd in the greatest Russian poll, despite votes being deducted, and Lenin is 5th.

8/27 – It looks like the greatest hero of Russia poll has been changed so that to vote, people have to answer questions in Russian. The poll is indefinitely open, and last I heard the leading four figures were an aristocrat or saint, Stalin, Lenin, and Marshal Zhukov.

8/23 – You might be interested in a Russian online poll of who people think is the greatest Russian. It’s unscientific, but has gotten international media attention, and Lenin and Stalin are among the choices. It would be a propaganda victory if Stalin (or Lenin) wins, and Stalin was ahead a few weeks ago. You can vote for Stalin at:

http://tinyurl.com/5gl5w3

or just scroll to vote for another choice. The capitalist media would probably spin a victory as an example of Russian nationalism, but Lenin or Stalin winning would be a blow, even if minor, against their line that Marxism-Leninism is dead and gone.

I’m trying to make the Facebook page more useful, so please let me know if you have ideas or want to be involved in some other way. Some new articles are ready, but have not been posted to the regular website yet. Things have been quiet online for too long, but the group still exists and is active.

Older news:

Alliance is a co-sponsor of the North Carolina Stop Torture Now (www.ncstoptorturenow.net) demonstration against extraordinary rendition, torture, and war, Saturday, October 27th, in Smithfield, NC. The march will start at 12:30 at 125 South Fourth St., there will be a rally (where Alliance will table - email southplumb@gmail.com to help out) at 2, and a protest at Aero Contractors' hangar at 3:30 (I think this is not planned as civil disobedience).

The next issue of Alliance! is still planned for November.

If anyone here is in North Carolina, I (Patick Meagher) will be speaking for Alliance at a discussion July 2nd in Chapel Hill.

Mark the July 4th national liberation of the USA by
joining a discussion Monday, July 2nd at 7pm at
Internationalist Books in Chapel Hill (405 W. Franklin
St.) about the need for revolutionary political and
economic change to make the country more democratic,
fair, prosperous, and sustainable. How can we remove
Bush and Cheney for their proven crimes? Whose
interests control politics? Is monopoly capitalism
serving most Americans well? How can we live up to
our democratic and progressive ideals?

Now is the time to discuss this, as Bush leads an
an anti-democratic reaction, and at a time when we
celebrate America's revolutionary birthday.
