The Whitman Taekwondo Club is one of the longest running activities at Whitman. Taekwondo is a martial art from Korea -- similar to Karate but with greater emphasis on kicks. Our club is more casual that many and we pride ourselves in gaining new members who haven't previously thought of trying martial arts.
The instructors this year are Ryan Finnegan and Rebecca Levy.
We practice from 5pm to 6pm M-F in an aerobics room in Sherwood. We drive to Boise for promotion testing. We also compete in 1 or 2 tournaments per year.
We are always looking for new members so if you have an interest in martial arts, getting in shape, or being awesome, then join Taekwondo. We are open to newcomers the first few weeks of each semester and at other times by permission (e-mail us if you are interested). Just come at 5pm any weekday and wear clothes in which you can move easily.
Class involves warm up, line drills, forms, and non/light contact sparring (depending on belt rank). Each class we also pick from one or more of the following: kicking drills, wall stretches, grab defense, knife defense, sparring workshop, pad work, board breaking, or group competition practice.
