My brother Nate found this photograph in a rubbish bin in Banff, Canada, 7 years ago.
He was having a bad patch at the time. In the space of one month he had lost a good job, was evicted from his apartment, been dumped by his girlfriend and been to hospital twice (one incident was squeegy related).
He was drawn in by the huge smile in the picture and dubbed the man "Happy Guy". His luck seemed to change after the find, so he decided to keep the photograph and ever since "Happy Guy" has been smiling at the family from his spot on our kitchen fridge.
Ever since, all who have visited the family home have asked about the photograph;
"Who is that?",
"It's Happy Guy", we'd respond and the story of Happy Guy would follow.
A little over a year ago, I started this group as a novelty and a small tribute to Nate. I thought that a few people may get a kick out of the smile. I said that the goal of the group was to find Happy Guy and meet him, but never did I envisage what was to happen.
Not only did we find Happy Guy (aka Paul Daggett) we started a minor sensation. Incredibly, Nate and myself are presently in Canada. We have been flown over as guests of Banff Lake Louise tourism and shall be handing that famous photopgraph back to Happy Guy on June 30th.
Although we found Happy Guy, the ride is far from over.
Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination....
