Ok after seeing a story about "lolcats" on the Time Magazine website (not sure if it actually went to press), I'd just like to clear a few things up.
~ "Lolcats" started were born on a group of message boards called *chans, mainly 4chan.org as far as I know, where they were they posted pictures of humourous cats on Saturday which was known as Caturday.
~ Caturday is basically saturday for cats, but as cats don't work, everyday for them is a saturday, so cat pictures were not uncommon throughout the week aswell.
~ Lolcats.com was the site to coin the term "lolcats", which was then grasped by most of the internet.
~ Lolcats.com is definately not cashing in on the cats. The owner (which is not me, I'm not stupid enough to take on the *chans, I just made this group cause I liked the site), who can be contacted by the e-mail address, told me that they don't make enough money off the ads to cover the cost of hosting.
~ And the article written on Time.com is about icanhascheezburger.com, another spawn site of the Caturday phenomenon.
Oh and Time.com used the lolcats.com logo without any credit given. Hows that for irony ;)
