If you think the glass is half full, and that a positive attitude and a cheery smile are not weird then look no further.

The society is entirely secular and non-party political. It is inclusive, all are welcome to join so long as they know how to smile and agree not to impose their own religious or political views on other members. Members may choose to subscribe but are not required to do so. The Society has a sense of humour, knows how to laugh at itself, will always where possible communicate or act in a way that brings a smile to people’s faces, and try not to take itself too seriously. Though that already sounds way too serious! This and the list below form the basis for our new constitution.

THE SOCIETY'S OBJECTS

The Society shall:
(a) promote a positive attitude to life and encourage positive action as a solution to adversity;
(b) conduct activity and encourage members to raise money for good causes and deliver social impact projects;
(c) organise events and activities to cheer people up;
(d) provide a structure through which optimists around the world can join together and interact;
(e) encourage people to be more participative in society;
(f) provide support and encouragement from/to optimists globally;
(g) through constant activity and promotion endeavour to make the world a better place for everyone to live;
(h) challenge the current negative media agenda
(i) campaign for personal social responsibility, and encourage deregulation;
(j) provide training workshops, and publish educational materials;

THE SOCIETY PLEDGE

As a member of the Optimists Society I hereby pledge to:

- give my energy, time and smiles as much as possible to promote the Optimist cause
- be grateful, generous, thoughtful and open to new ideas
- have a positive outlook on life and nurture my sense of fun
- find the joy in life’s simple pleasures and encourage others to do the same
- endeavour to perform at least one random act of kindness per week, and if someone does something for you, do something for someone else in return...

Why not also try and achieve the following:

- VOLUNTEER - donate 1% of your waking hours to optimistic activities, (about 7.5 days per year)
- DONATE - give 1% of your income to good causes
- REDUCE - make every effort to reduce your carbon footprint, recycle and use less water
- HELP - give blood and sign the organ donor register
