This group has been created to provide support to Hu jia, a chinese dissident, and to other victims of the PRC's repression policy on freedom of speech. Our main scope is to provide information and ways and means to oppose the repression in the build-up to the Olympics.
To expand its scope and above all to adapt to current events, this group will be encompassing the plight of Tibet and the Tibetans and will oppose any reprehensible policy or action initiated by the PRC's government
We endeavour to keep you informed, to network, to create a bigger better awareness and action network for these issues. Do contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

More concretely UK centred action :
Taken from the free tibet campaign website (uk version). We are faced with a terrible situation in Tibet . News from today's backlash against the protesters has only started getting through the usual disinfomation campaign we are usually subject to by the PRC's government.
But one thing is for sure : Tanks were used against poor starved frustrated people. No noise comes someone silenced by several tons of metal . I can only urge you to do the basic thing anyone should do in the rest of the world: start clicking and typing. (unless one of you has influence on the IOC or the PRC's army command....wishful thinking sorry):
Please write to Gordon Brown and tell him to urge China to allow Western media and independent observers into Tibet before the 17 March midnight deadline. (If you receive this message after the deadline please urge him to push China to allow independent investigators into Tibetan areas.)
Fax: 020 7925 0918
Or you can send an e-mail message via the website: http://www.number10.gov.uk
Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP

- also urge Gordon Brown to call for a UN team of investigators into Tibet as soon as possible.

8. Write to the International Olympic Committee
The IOC must withdraw all Tibetan areas (TAR and Tibetan areas of Gansu, Qinghai and Sichuan) from the planned Olympic torch relay route. This includes the planned torch ascent of Mount Everest
