On the run-up to Mobilize, we came across some wild stats from our friend Chetan Sharma and the CTIA.

Whether you're an entrepreneur looking to ignite your next idea or an executive tasked with finding new growth, the indicators are clear. Look at the mobile web — because clearly that's where customers are going. The growth is astounding — 193 percent growth in mobile data revenues since 2007.

Year-end 2009 outcomes are predicted as:

* U.S. mobile subscriber penetration will exceed 90%, or 275 million people.
* U.S. mobile revenues are on target to exceed $148 billion this year.
* $45 billion of that will be just for data services, up from $23.2 billion in 2007.
* 2.3 trillion minutes of use (talk time).
* 1.7 trillion text messages.
* U.S. customers are the most talkative in the world, with 829 talk minutes a year in 2008. Next is Canada, with 444 minutes per subscriber in the same period.

Those data figures alone are startling enough. Mobile data revenue, which is predicted to be $45 billion by the end of 2009, is nearly twice an expected $28 billion in Hollywood box-office revenue for the same period. Guess surfing on the go is more lucrative than watching a film.
