- Participants of the 2008 Turtles of Cape Cod Field School adventured into salt marshes, estuaries, coastal uplands, heathlands and pine-oak woods in South Wellfleeet for three and a half days of fast-paced, hands-on discovery. They found, identified, marked, measured and surveyed threatened diamondback terrapins and rare Eastern box turtles. On the way they encountered horseshoe crab, real crabs galore, shorebirds & birds of prey, and they had a rare species sighting of a spadefoot toad. They discovered nesting terrapins, relocated vulnerable nests and protected nests from voracious predators. They found tiny hatchlings emerging from over-winter upland hideouts and radio-tracked box turtles. Come join the participants for a virtual recap of this year's adventures.
