In 2008 the majority of Canadians voted for a prosperous, fair, and green Canada. Over 60% of voters cast their ballots for parties with progressive platforms. Yet with only 37% of the votes the Conservatives behaved as though they had 100% of the power.
Canadians for a Progressive Coalition are asking the NDP and Liberals to form a coalition government with support from the Bloc Quebecois and counsel from the Greens.
With the suspension of parliament we need to work hard to be heard through the blizzard of Conservative messages. We need to win the media struggle to show that Canadians support a coalition. We also need to show the MPs we support them.
What can you do?
1. First, sign the petition for a progressive coalition government. Go to:
http://www.progressivecoalition.ca/form.php
2. Second, forward this message to people that use email, and speak to those who don't.
3. Third, phone either your MP, or the President of the local Riding Association for the party you voted for, to tell them you support their party forming a coalition government.
4. Fourth, write letters to the editor, call into radio shows, and post comments on news stories and blogs. The Conservatives have been kind enough to provide us with an incredibly powerful tool to find the local media our areas. Please find the link at: https://mycampaign.conservative.ca/EN/4936/77257. If you would rather replace their talking points with views more representative of Canadians, then please visit out website for more information about a Coalition.
5. We are organizing teams and events for the coming weeks. Check out "recent news" below for the latest way to get involved.
6. To RESPECTFULLY express your views to the Governor General, just write to her at this email address:
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean is reachable at info@gg.ca
We are going to build momentum until we get a government that reflects the values that we voted for. In the last election we saw vote splitting on a massive scale. Today, we start stitching those votes back together.
