ORANGE REVOLUTION

Drawing on the themes of democracy and citizen engagement, the critically acclaimed Orange Revolution tells the story of a people united, not by one leader or one party, but by one idea: to defend their vote.

The documentary focuses on the Orange Revolution, a series of protests and political events that took place in Ukraine from late November 2004 to January 2005, in the immediate aftermath of the run-off vote of the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election which was claimed to be marred by massive corruption, voter intimidation and direct electoral fraud. Nationwide, the democratic revolution was highlighted by a series of acts of civil disobedience, sit-ins, and general strikes organized by the opposition movement.

Weaving together footage previously unseen even in Ukraine, thoughtful conversations with the people who were there, and the music that was performed live at pivotal moments during the protests, Orange Revolution captures the spirit and determination of the most successful political protest of the decade—a non violent victory with meaning for citizens the world over.
