Evelyn Crowley's coverage of Erin's post-show party at the Gramercy Park Hotel:

"There are so many good-looking girls here," said hairstylist Michael Angelo as he surveyed the crowd that had gathered on the rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel Friday night for fashion designer Erin Fetherston's after-show party. Indeed, the room was packed with PYTs like Olivia Palermo, Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen, and Mamie Gummer. Asked why she thinks all the cool girls in town love her feminine creations, Fetherston demurred, "I think it's the fact that I don't think I'm cool at all." Right. Up next for the designer? "Oh, I'm flying to L.A. on Sunday to shoot a short film for my collection. The last one starred Kirsten Dunst. This time, we're using Zooey Deschanel."

Fashion Week Daily's chic report from Friday's Fall/Winter '08 presentation:

Erin told us her collection was inspired by Shakespearean goddesses, so imagine our surprise when the show opened with goth getups befitting a Beetlejuice-era Winona Ryder. The mood soon lifted as airy mini dresses and whimsical, Ophelia-esque gowns in cherry blossom prints floated down the runway. "Perfect for the New York woman who wants to look and feel good," said Irina Lazareanu, who was taken by the single black rose greeting front-row guests on their seats.

The Fashion Informer's random questions for Erin Fetherston:

So, Erin...

What is your all-time favorite song or piece of music?
"Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison. It just always puts me in a good mood.

Tell me about your pet(s).
I have two adorable puppies. Koala is a Bichon Maltese, and she is two years old. She got her name because she would hug us when she was a baby like a koala bear. The new addition is Molly, she is a Chinese Crested Powderpuff, and she is six months old. I call her the unicorn puppy because she doesn't really look like a dog. She looks like a fairytale creature, with her blue eyes and rabbit ears. They are both all white and very fluffy.

What is your idea of a perfect meal?
The perfect meal requires the perfect company to start. I like simple foods made with excellent and organic ingredients. Grilled fish and puree of spinach is my favorite dinner.

Ocean or mountains?
Ocean.

Biggest difference between living and working in New York and living and working in Paris?
New York is so manic and you can meet a lot of people and things in a single day. Paris is more quiet, so it’s better for reflection and creativity.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes; I'm living proof.

Brunch: pro or con?
I am amused by the phenomenon of brunch in New York City. NYC brunch is like European lunch every day (minus the pancakes). I think it’s too bad people can only really take time to enjoy a midday meal on the weekend. In Paris, everyone takes time to have lunch during the day and it’s a much healthier lifestyle.

Who do you consider the most underrated designer of all time?
Junko Shimada- no one really even knows her in the US.

Please describe your favorite shoes.
I love the glitter heeled Miu Miu peep toe platforms from last year. I wear them all the time. They are so particular, yet go with almost everything.

Have you ever consideedr designing a children’s collection for little girls?
Yes! I would love to do that.

What freaks you out?
All the garbage piled up on New York City streets.

What’s the one beauty/grooming product can you not live without?
Kiehl's lip balm.

What's the greatest or most important lesson your parents taught you?
To show compassion.

When are you happiest?
When I'm cuddled up with my puppies and my fiancé.

Erin is simply too adorable + whimsical for the CFDA.

Rogan Gregory took home the $200,000 prize. Our sincere "mazel tovs" and "whoopies" to the Rogan (pro-LOHAS) camp. If the prize was not destined for Erin, we're super-psyched that it went to such an environmentally-friendly company; Rogan exclusively uses fair trade materials, and utilizes energy efficient techniques when creating his clothes.

ERIN FETHERSTON GO INTERNATIONAL for TARGET
A HEDI FERJANI PRODUCTION (Erin's beau!)
Directed by
CHRISTOPHER ROMERO
Starring
INGRID SCHRAM, DARLA BAKER, and HEATHER HAHN:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03cKWwwJHYI

Featuring two bicycling youths who turn into living dolls after an Alice in Wonderland-esque adventure in the woods, Ferjani’s piece spins a somewhat darker yarn than Target’s Cinderella story, but is just as enchanting as Fetherston’s fairytale dresses.

Oh, and don’t forget that Fetherston for Target hits stores on November 18th!

New York Magazine's Erin Fetherston Report Card:

Can the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist be more loved right now? British Vogue raves over Fetherston's "newfound sense of confidence," hailing the "sublime" and "subdued" collection as a successful foray into a new sophistication. The Daily concurs, hailing "elegant gray dresses" and cotton shirtdresses as a "more polished side" of Fetherston, though they gripe that some of Fetherston's experiments with theme and proportion lacked "cohesiveness and quality of execution." Nevertheless, the kooky aspects of Fetherston's collection — such as line-drawing prints used in sheaths — receive a warm embrace over at Style.com, where these quirks are heralded as "charming" elements to what was, in the end, "an elegant, grown-up parade of plain silks in grays and pales."

Fashionista.com's Faran Krentcil interviewed Erin for Teen Vogue's Style File Fashion Week Blog:

... I hunted down a young designer darling, Erin Fetherston, to give you some tips on how to make it as a designer.

Here's what she said:

GET INVOLVED. "By the time you're fifteen or sixteen, you should be interning for someone! You need to get real experience in the industry. That doesn't mean you have to live in New York because there are designers everywhere, but you do need to start exploring how to get to New York, or another city with a big fashion industry."

START DREAMING. "When you're in high school, it's a great time to think about your perspective and your point of view. You can't design what everyone else already does, and your signature style is what will make you succeed. Start developing your own way of dressing."

SLEEP IN NOW. "You have to be prepared to work very, very hard. Talent is so important, but if you're not willing to do the work for it, it won't matter."

So what was Erin doing in high school?

"Oh, I was cutting up all my clothes to see how they were made, and how I could re-do them!"

And now she's got a CFDA / Vogue nomination!

Vogue.com's runway review from Wednesday's Spring/Summer '08 fashion show:

NEW YORK, September 5, 2007 – Backstage before her show, Erin Fetherston tossed around such fashion-isms as "eccentric glamour" and "kooky sophistication" before remarking, "I think the ultimate luxury in fashion is to be yourself, to celebrate your personality." Combine those utterances with the fact that the collection was named Flights of Fancy, and it seemed like we were in for a typically whimsical outing from the designer. It was a surprise, then, to witness an elegant, grown-up parade of plain silks in grays and pales. Fetherston didn't neglect the sweetly girlish sensibility that has made her clothes must-haves among a fashion-obsessed clique of starlets such as Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschanel. But by sending out looks like a nipped-waist blouse paired with slim, dove-gray-hued pants, she should attract new fans. Her kookiness revealed itself in stealth form, most engagingly in two charming line-drawing prints of birds and shells, cut into slim shifts and trenches. Fetherston accessorized her polished outfits with cat-eye glasses, a pearly conch handbag, and enough headgear—from feathered headbands to turbans—to make Arden Wohl green with envy, but none of it was a distraction.

from http://www.fashionista.com/ :

We love Erin Fetherston.

We love Target.

We love the way Erin put blonde wigs on all her models for this shoot.

And we love this collection, but you'll have to wait for it:

The beautiful coats, dresses, and leggings don't hit stores until November... in the meantime there's always Libertine's new line for Targée.

Erin Fetherston's New York Magazine Profile:

The Label
Though Erin Fetherston started her own line of handmade frocks in 2004, it wasn’t until a year later that she realized real, everyday clothes were more interesting—and lucrative. Still, her ready-to-wear is full of the flirty, ruffled, delicate fare that global "It" girls can’t get enough of. And the designer’s network of connections has helped boost the label’s profile. Best friend and Paris mentor Ellen von Unwerth shot a whimsical mini-film featuring lovely young things, including another Fetherston pal Kirsten Dunst, which played on a loop during the designer’s fall 2006 presentation. Images from the short would eventually morph into the line’s look book.

The Look
Girlish frocks for Hollywood sprites and anyone aspiring to become one.

The Designer
Hers is a fairy tale come true of an American in Paris. With her bachelor degree from UC Berkeley in hand, the San Francisco native took off for France where she further honed her skills at the Parsons School of Design satellite there. In 2004, Fetherston decided to launch her own collection with the help of her boyfriend’s mother who had logged in time in the ateliers of Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin.
