Description:: This is a group for all students who are against the Foxwoods casino being built and specifically against it being built on top of The Gallery. The proposed casino could potentially have many negative results with issues such as more crime, traffic, public disturbances, ground pollution, feeding into gambling addictions, and more.

Chinatown is especially outraged at the location choice since residents and local businesses are only a block away. The casino's negative outcomes would all largely effect this community.

Our Youth Statement:

We, the Students Against the Casino, are united in taking a stand to voice our concerns. We oppose the building of a casino in the heart of Philadelphia because:

* it exposes youth to addiction and crime;
* it has a negative impact on individuals and families;
* it would disrupt the well-being of local businesses; and
* it would destroy the cultural significance of Chinatown and its surrounding communities.

Instead, we believe that the City of Philadelphia should:

* have programs to help youth envision a more successful future;
* redevelop Center City to provide a safer and healthier environment; and
* enact proposals that will maintain the cultural values and heritage of Chinatown and its surrounding neighborhoods.
