Since there's been so much talk about the "Old Facebook" and the "New Facebook," I think we should take a moment and remember the actual history.
Once upon a time, there was a social network people could join where they could arrange their profile pages however they liked and put whatever they wanted on it. There were boxes that would play music, flashing banners, embedded mini-games, and almost whatever else you could think of. Basic consistency between profile pages was soon forgotten in the name of "being unique," which was a joke since the supposed individuality was all cut-and-paste anyway. A chaotic usability nightmare of frustratingly cluttered, random profile pages was all that was left.
Pop quiz! What am I describing?
A) MySpace as it is now and always has been.
B) The so-called "Old Facebook."
Having a hard time deciding?
Facebook was originally made to provide a better, more organized alternative to what MySpace offered. When the apps came, this was pretty much abandoned. Those of us that actually liked the Original Facebook have not been happy for a long time.
However, the New Facebook makes this better without taking anything away. The people who like having a trillion apps can keep them, and those of us that didn't like having to sift through them all to look at the actual profile don't have to.
If you're unhappy about not being able to force everybody to spend hours searching through all your dumb, annoying apps when all they want to do is check your profile real quick for whatever reason, then that's fine. Do it on MySpace. Let us have our Facebook back.

Q: What was your chief complaint with the previous version of Facebook?
A: There was no consistency between profile pages. It should be the same information presented in the same place across all the profile pages. By allowing everybody to add however many apps they wanted and allowing them to place them wherever they wanted, all of the pages became random, cluttered, and frustrating. The new version uses the clever/obvious/overdue concept of tabs to separate the apps from the profile.
Q: Is the New Facebook perfect?
A: Some of us are very happy with things exactly as they now are, and some of us still think work needs to be done. We all agree that it is far better than the version before it. That's the point of this group.
Q: Should the previous version remain an option?
A: That's really a different issue for a different group, but most members of our group feel that keeping it available would be okay as long as we wouldn't ever have to look at it ourselves. In other words, we don't want John Doe to have the power to force the "Old Facebook" on us by clicking an option to have his profile page display that way to everybody.
Q: They seem pretty set on adopting the New Facebook, so what's the point?
A: If millions of people keep stepping up to say how they they think the New Facebook is the worst thing in the world, then who can say for sure that Facebook won't do something to placate them after all? If it seems to them that nobody likes the improvements, then the next version of Facebook might have all the flaws of both the Old and New Facebook without any of the improvements. And that would be very lame.
