INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION EVENT ON OCTOBER 22ND:
SSC is teaming up with other student organizations to make a 12 hour, extremely awesome event including solar-powered documentaries, booths and awareness tables from many Las Vegas and UNLV orgs, Food, movie projected outside, Earthstyles Lounge which teaches people about lifestyle choices that ease the weight of our footprint on the planet (brought to you by Lovesac), Solar powered concert and cultural performances, and Eco-friendly fashion show and sustainability-themed art show to wrap it all up. The goal of the event is to collect signatures from All people who attend demanding strong climate action from our elected officials not only within our borders, but taking the lead in bold steps at the United Nations' Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December. Then the following day, Friday October 23rd, we will rally at City Hall, deliver all our signatures to our elected leaders and literally make our voices heard! Tell them that their constituency and all people of the world need this change to happen in order to save our species from rampant climate change.
We need tons of help. Please let me know if in any way you can help with these events, whether you have a contact in the media, or know someone who wants to sponsor our event, or anything in between, please let us know, as we need all the help we can get.
ART CONTEST!
We'll have an art contest in which your work must follow the theme "Your vision of a Sustainable and/or a non-sustainable future". Any medium is welcome, whether it be photography, film, sculpture, graphic arts, or paint, but we must have a physical submission by OCTOBER 21st at the Student Union SORCE room. Anyone from the Las Vegas Community (UNLV student or not) is welcome to enter. If you have any questions, you may contact us here, or by email at unlvssc@gmail.com, or phone (702) 371-6663.
