You've been dreaming about it for a long time...
The Honors College will FINALLY be given its own building!!!
After much persuasion the Dean's Leadership Council at Rutgers-Camden has agreed to take on the acquisition of a new space for the best department on campus, The Honors College! A sub-committee is working diligently to fund-raise for the renovation of a building on Cooper Street which they estimate will cost $6 million. They are also working on hiring an architect and getting a rendering done of the new facility.
This new building would include a study library, 4 seminar rooms, offices, a lounge for meetings and recreation, and computer space.
In addition, the alumni and friends of the Honors College will have an opportunity to participate in the acquisition of the new building. Naming rights for the rooms in the building will be released in early 2009. HCAA hopes to raise enough funds to purchase the naming rights for a room. We've all spent time in the stuffy lounge on the cramped second floor of the library...this is definitely a worthy cause!
More information will follow.
