News:
Has your crew scheduled an Open House this fall to help in your recruiting effort? Now is the time to reach out to your friends and acquaintances who might be interested in Venturing. The council has several promotional items that have been specifically designed for Venturing recruiting in Quivira Council. The office has these promo items in poster size at the office, or you can pull them off Quivira.org for flyer sized options. Once you hold your Open House, we would love to hear from you on your success in recruiting. Be sure to post your successes out on the Q-Venturing facebook page.

Need help in planning an Open House? Come to the VOA meeting this Thursday and there will be others who can help you brainstorm on how to run your Open House. The meeting is open to any Venturing youth or adult interested in making a difference. The meeting will be held at 7:00 on Thursday, September 24th at the Scout office.

Also at the meeting, we will be talking about upcoming events that Venturers will be interested in attending:

Powder Horn Training – 10/9-12 and 10/23 – 26 – It’s not too late and there are spots open
40th Anniversary of Black Jack Trail
VLSC Training – November 14th
Wilderness First Aid Training – November 13/14
Venturing Specific Leader Training – December 12

Over the last year, Quivira Council’s Venturing program has seen an increase of multi-crew activities. This has been the direct result of our Venturing Officer’s Association (VOA). As with all older Scouting Programs, Venturing is youth led and when we let the youth lead, we can build a dynamic Venturing program. In the last year, we have held an area wide recruiting effort at a corn maze that was attended by over 75 youth, at Trappers’ we held our VOA meeting on Saturday afternoon and inducted several youth and adults into the Corps of Discovery, in February we presented 4 Venturing Leadership Awards and were visited by Amanda Vogt, Venturing’s National President, and in March, Crew 360 hosted a lock-in at the armory in Hutchinson, followed by special activities at the Cosmosphere. Our youth leaders developed all of these activities.

Much like a crew, the Venturing Officer’s Association is led by a President and several Vice Presidents (Program, Administration, and Finances). We are looking for youth who are looking to step up to the next level and help to continue the Venturing journey the VOA has started. We would ask that you look at the youth of your crew and encourage those youth that have the desire to become council level leaders to run for office.

VOA Elections will be held on Thursday, April 23 at the Scout Office in Wichita. We will gather at 6:00, hot dogs will be served at 6:30 and the VOA Meeting and elections will begin at 7:00. We would ask that each crew bring their key youth/adult leadership and those youth wanting to run for office. In addition, please bring enough side dishes for your crew to supplement the hot dogs. All of the side dishes will be put together for a potluck. Also, be sure to bring your camp chair, as weather permitting, we will be meeting outside. So that we know how many hot dogs to buy and cook, please RSVP to Julie Dalton at buffalogal1@cox.net with the number from your crew that will be attending.

In order for our youth to be successful, we need to ensure that as many crews as possible are active and participate in the VOA and election process. If you have any questions, contact Christy Burkemper at qvoapresident@yahoo.com, Julie Dalton at buffalogal1@cox.net or Alan Lepard at alepard@bsamail.org.
