Berkeley is Committed to Transit and the Environment.
Because nearly 50% of greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation, the simple act of making local transit improvements can make a big difference in the fight against global warming. Here in Berkeley, we’re committed to better transit and a healthier environment.

KK Jeopardizes That Commitment.
Measure KK requires that every time the Berkeley City Council wants to make a street lane change to improve transit and cut greenhouse gas emissions, the Council will have to put it on the ballot. This unnecessary roadblock could put environmentally friendly transit improvements on hold for up to 2 years. We can’t afford to wait that long.

KK is a Costly Waste.
According to the Berkeley City Manager, each new ballot measure mandated by Measure KK could cost the city up to $1.2 million, including the cost of an additional required planning study. That’s a lot of money in a city our size, money that could be better spent on things like education, healthcare, public safety, or actually improving transit and protecting our environment.

KK Undermines Our Climate Action Plan.
Measure KK would also block the full implementation of Berkeley’s “Green Initiative” (Measure G), which 81 percent of Berkeley voters approved in 2006, in order to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions. (read less)
