Yes, our own intrepid little culture warrior and Gayle Ruzicka's Puppet-in-Chief, State Senator Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, is out to make the world a better place yet again. His latest courageous act as Utah's own moral guardian is to see to it that Utah stores wish you "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays". It's nice to know that we've balanced the state budget, adequately funded our public schools, created better access to health care and worked out growth and infrastructure problems and now actually have time to get to the real important stuff like non-binding resolutions encouraging your local Wal-Mart greeter to say Merry Christmas.

That's right! Senator Buttars is launching his salvo in the war on Christmas. Buttars said, according to the Tribune article, "I'm sick of the Christmas wars -- we're a Christian nation and ought to use the word."

Senator, there is no "war on Christmas". It's a right-wing boogy man dragged up to instill a misbegotten persecution complex. It's pure politics -- the politics of fear, creating a shadowy "other" that is out there trying to ruin your way of life. Saying "Happy Holidays" has nothing to do with political correctness or (false) Christian persecution. It's pure capitalism, baby.

So this holiday season, be it Christmas or what have you, be sure to include one more name on your list:
