So you thought the pay gap between women and men was a thing of the past? Think again.

Despite it being the 21st Century, men are STILL getting paid 17.2 per cent more than women. This means that the average woman will lose or forgo a massive £300,000 over her lifetime. This pay gap does not only exist in the lower paid job sectors - full-time women earn less than full-time men in EVERY occupation.

8 December 08: First reading of the Equal Pay and Flexible Working Bill in the House of Lords by Baroness Morris of Bolton. Baroness Morris said, " “This Bill lays out some tough measures that will have an immediate effect on the lives of working British women. The Bill will give the current legislation some teeth by forcing a culture change within companies. Good employers have nothing to fear and I am certain these common sense proposals will benefit both women and our beleaguered economy.”

17 Sept 08: Theresa May for Equal Pay is launched.

04 Sept 08: The EHRC publishes the Sex and Power survey which looks at women in top positions of power and influence across the public and private sectors. 29 May 1970: The Equal Pay Act was passed by parliament. It sought to eliminate discrimination in terms of pay and contracts of employment where men and women are doing work that is the same or broadly similar. When the Equal Pay Act was passed in 1970, the gender pay gap stood at 37 per cent. By the time the Act came into force in 1975, it had closed to 30 per cent.
