The gay scene in the north of Joburg is coming to life. After many years of the Rec Room being the only gay venue north of Melville, you now have the famous Qc parties in Sandton, Diva Eloquence in Rivonia and now Risqué in Fourways.

Risqué is a stylish, up market venue with an avenue of palm trees leading to the entrance The club is open Wednesday to Saturday with different events every night - look out for the pole dancing on Saturdays!

Risqué is the latest venture by Bruce Walker. Many people know Bruce as part of the QueerCity team, but his involvement in gay society goes back much further than that, he has been MC at Pride at least once and is currently on the Pride board.

He started to work in gay clubs when he was still at school and worked the door at Zanzi bar and then Mrs Henderson's. This was when downtown started its decline and he opened a small club The Embassy in Rosebank. Stuart H made his debuted as a DJ there. People thought this was madness as Hillbrow was the place to be. The Embassy became Krypton and was involved in the first ever Gay film fest at the Constantia movie house

in Rosebank. That was fun with the good old happy clappies shouting outside while the movies were on. Bruce moved across the road and started legendary Pandora's. Pandora's became so popular that boys and girls took over the street.

One night the street was so full that it was closed to traffic the good old SAP arrested Bruce. The boys and girls did not like this and proceeded to attack the police and demonstrated outside the police station. They released him and we continued the party. (this was the closest to SA’s own stonewall.)

Bruce took a brake from the scene for a bit and came back to help open the Heartlands, but soon left being unhappy with the owners. This is when he started Qc with partner Pieter Rossouw. These first Friday of the month events have become a religion, going from strength to strength, and will soon be bringing the Qc experience to the rest of SA and London UK. Qc is planning the mother of all Pride After parties the Fireman’s Ball at the Coca Cola Dome with pre-parties in Dbn and CT promoting Jhb Gay Pride Festival 2007.
