To Establish and maintain a fan base of supporters and recruit possible new members. We also would like to solicit band jobs and work for private and public functions since we are a non profit organization. We need public support to continue to provide our services. In April 2004 a group of Rockland firefighters got together and decided to see if there was enough interest to start a firefighters pipe band. Letters were sent out to all Rockland fire companies and meetings were held. The meetings got a great response from members all across the county and the Rockland County Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Inc. was established in July of 2004.
The founding goal of the organization is to provide the proper tribute for our fallen brothers and sisters. We all witnessed too many funerals for firefighters and police officers since the tragic events of September 11th and the proper service and tribute given to those hero’s. The bagpipes and drums have a long standing tradition in the fire service and Rockland firefighters are stepping up in order to honor their own.
This group, though small at this time will be able to perform at line-of duty as well as non line-of-duty funerals, memorials, dedications, parades & dinners. We have members who already have been playing the pipes and drums and also currently have classes for beginners.
If you would like more information or are interested in joining you can contact the band on the Facebook page or via email at RCFFPIPEBAND@optonline.net or attend one of our practices. We practice every Tuesday night at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in the mask confidence building. We start at 6:00 pm. Beginners are always welcome.
We can also be reached at Rockland County Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Inc at PO Box 576, New City, N.Y. 10956
