One of the main purposes of this workshop is to create awareness that the organic human instrument that informs theatrical performance can grow with practical knowledge, applied through concentrated, consistent work powered by universal human qualities of will, courage and common sense. This is because living in today’s society can build bad habits that inhibit an instrument that we, in recent times, have taken for granted. We seem to spend more time finding ways to abuse it, rather than strengthening and encouraging release. In the end, it is not just sound and movement that is being constricted, but worse, our inner “voice” (meaning what we think and how we feel) and the basic human need to communicate is denied existence outside of ourselves.
Participants in this workshop will be led through a series of theoretical and practical exercises that seek to introduce basic tools that will strengthen mind-body connections to both the technical processes, as well as the creative processes that inform basic theatrical performance.
Qahar Aqilah got his start and training 8 years ago as an ensemble member of Rep16:21. In the intervening years, he has delved into other aspects of the theatre as well, though acting still remains as his main passion.
