Basic Idea:
-Make stronger the awesome work people are doing, keep people connected/involved, get people involved, and start helping each other out when we can, with everything.
Summary:
The purpose of the Macalester Alumni for Change Network is to connect members of the Macalester community with each other to benefit our collective and individual visions for social equality and justice. The network welcomes all members of the Macalester community wishing to take part, and will serve as a site and community for making the change we want to see in the world.
The Network will be divided into two sub-networks: 1) groups by passion or profession based in geographic chapters, and 2) a Macalester Matters section.
The Passion Groups will have three interrelated benefits:
1) Career and/or project advancement
2) Reflection on common needs/organizing potentials
3) Community welcome and support
These benefits will be achieved through:
Community gatherings and Dreamtanks (as an EXCO class, onetime discussion, online correspondence, international convergence, etc) and
A website to host: Mentoring, a Database of contacts, group mailing lists, and a place to post jobs, events, and other calls to action
Macalester Matters and full network events will be focused on the common denominator of this group—Macalester—and include:
1) Sessions at existing Macalester wide events, particularly reunions
2) A place to list, discuss, and take action on current issues
3) A Newsletter to discuss issues of relevance to Macalester and social justice in any or all fields
