Adel Building Crisis : Cracks, not bats, in the Church Tower Belfry

Adel Church is a Grade 1 national treasure and an architectural gem. Featured in every significant book on English Churches, this Norman Church built circa 1150 needs your help.

The church is essentially sound but the west wall tower is showing its age and cracks have appeared in the belfry wall. A strapping has been put in place but this is a temporary measure and professionals have advised that a more permanent solution needs to be found. The project will cost a five figure sum so every public contribution from as little as £5 is necessary and of vital importance.

To date no specific funds or budgets have been forthcoming and the task to raise such a considerable sum is a massive strain on the resources and good will of the small number of Adel Church members. This is therefore an appeal to you for your generous support.
Adel friends can be exceedingly proud of this beautiful building and focal point for the area. It has retained its Norman heritage and for over 850 years has been our most cherished landmark. It is not just local people who appreciate its charms since it has been featured in TV documentaries and programmes such as “A touch of Frost”.

You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your contributions will help to keep this beautiful building sound for future generations, let’s hope for another 850 years!

Our new Rector is Dr Ian White who is currently curate in Stanningley Parish. Ian was ordained about 4 years ago and prior to ordination had a career in industry as a chemist. He has a wife and 2 grown up daughters. His Licensing / installation as our priest will take place on Tuesday 7th July at 7.30pm in Church.
