Alzheimer's in the African American community featured on WHRO's Another View. See video at http://www.anotherview.tv/videoplayer.aspx?file=123.mp4
Did you know that African Americans and Hispanics are at higher risk for developing Alzheimer's due to the prevalence of heart disease and diabetes in these communities? Furthermore, African-American and Hispanic caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease are significantly more likely than caregivers of other races to consider the disease a normal part of the aging process and dismiss its symptoms as part of getting older. This gap in understanding sheds light on the reasons for delay in diagnosis and treatment, which is an unnecessary setback for caregivers and individuals with the disease alike.

Early detection and early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease gives individuals the power to make choices about their own health and future.
