At the time of entering this informaton, Maldivian Red Crescent is not registered. Maldivian Red Crescent is not a normal society because it claims rights and independence very different from normal societies/clubs which makes it impossible for normal registration. Hence, we tried to get a Presidential Decree. However, due to invalidity of Decrees after the ratification of the new Maldivian Constitution, the IPG (Interim Planning Group) worked on The Maldivian Red Crescent Act through a bill passed by the Parliament, which is the norm for establishing a National Society (Red Cross or Red Crescent) in other countries.
INTRODUCTION:
--------------------
Maldivian Red Crescent is an independent and non-political humanitarian organization, with a legal personality of its own, established in accordance with Maldivian laws and regulations, the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols with the aim or providing humanitarian services.
The Maldivian Red Crescent is officially recognised by the Government of the Republic of Maldives as a voluntary aid organization, auxiliary to public authorities in the humanitarian field. Through this relationship, it is mandated to carry out its activities throughout the territory of the Maldives and elsewhere through the National Society of the respective country or the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The Maldivian Red Crescent maintains its autonomy, which allows it to act at all times independently, and in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. The public authorities shall at all times respect the adherence of the Maldivian Red Crescent to the Fundamental Principles.
Please refer to the News Section for the 7 Fundamental Principles of the movement.
