One thing to keep in mind when creating hats for chemo patients is that they cannot wear wool. It aggravates their sensitive skin. The hats have to also be clean, individually bagged, and from a smoke-free, pet-free home. HOWEVER, if you have pets and/or smoke, I will gladly hand-wash your things when I receive them, so don't hesitate in making those chemo caps!

Here is a SUPER easy pattern for a simple, quick, and very warm adult hat: Use chunky yarn and size 17 or 19 needles. Cast on 15 to 17 stitches and knit till your work is about 17 inches long. Your work will be about 8 or 9 inches x 17 inches. Cast off and cut yarn. Thread some yarn through one 17 inch side and pull tight, making the top of the hat. Then sew the sides together and work in ends. Turn inside out and voila! If you want to be able to fold up the rim of the hat, just cast on about 20 stitches, making it a bit longer.
