- Description:
- Social Media Club brings together journalists, publishers, communications professionals, artists, amateur media creators, citizen journalists, teachers, students, tool makers, and other interested collaborators. Essentially the people who create and consume media who have an interest in seeing the ‘media industry’ evolve for everyone’s benefit.
We've set up a Facebook Group to help us coordinate forming SMC Richmond, publicize events, and get the word out about SMC Richmond. Here are the answers to the questions we get asked about the most . . .
Can anyone join SMC?
Absolutely. Social Media Club is intended for those who are involved in social media, or want to learn. And it’s open to everyone, though discussions and content will likely focus on business applications and endeavors related to social media. If you're new to social media, you'll find plenty of people who can help you get started.
Is there a cost to belong to SMC?
Nope. The Richmond chapter doesn’t charge a membership fee. Some special events may require an admission fee, but those will be on a limited and individual basis.
What’s SMC Richmond’s goal?
We’re hoping to provide SMC Richmond members with great, practical content about social media. Throughout the year, our aim is to bring in speakers and hold interactive sessions and workshops that focus on social media for business, case studies, and best practices. One part networking and socializing, one part practical business ideas.
How often do you meet and what are your events like?
Monthly. But you can come as often or as infrequently as you wish. Not surprisingly, this is a social crowd. You'll find friendly people you can connect with in person and online.
When did the club get started?
The Richmond chapter began organizing in February, 2009. Our first event will be on May 7, 2009.
How do I stay up to date with the meetings schedule?
• Join our Facebook group and check out the event postings for each meeting
• Follow us on Twitter.com @SMCRVA
How can I help?
Contact us via Facebook, @SMCChicago on Twitter.com, or at SMCRichmond@gmail.com and let us know what you’ve got in mind. We need help organizing events, finding sponsors, and generally getting the word out about the group. There’s always something to contribute, just let us know how you’d like to be involved. Our core steering committee typically chats once or twice a month via conference call to plan and strategize. And we’d welcome you!
