The University of Wollongong Oxfam Club raises awareness of social justice issues on the UOW campus and in the Illawarra community.
Our current campaigns are:
• Close The Gap (indigenous health equality)
• Make Poverty History and fair trade
• Control Arms
• Labour rights
We carry out these campaigns by:
• Holding stalls at market days on-campus and in the community selling fair trade tea, coffee, chocolate and handicrafts
• Organising an annual Oxfam Youth Forum at UOW to educate high school students from the Illawarra about social justice issues
• Sending volunteers to the Oxfam Australia events, e.g. Oxfam Trailwalker, Oxfam International Youth Parliament
• Organising fundraising events for Oxfam Australia, e.g. an annual trivia night
• Organising events to raise awareness of social justice issues and Oxfam campaigns on campus and in the community, e.g. photo petitions and gathering signatures to send to politicians and businesses
• Working with other on-campus groups and local organisations such as Amnesty International to increase the impact of our work
UOW Oxfam is affiliated with Oxfam Australia (www.oxfam.org.au), a community-based, not-for-profit, secular aid and development organisation.
Oxfam Australia is one of the 13 Oxfams around the world that form Oxfam International, which works in over 100 countries worldwide.
