The University of Wollongong Oxfam Club raises awareness of social justice issues on the UOW campus and in the Illawarra community.

Our current campaigns are:

• Close The Gap (indigenous health equality)
• Make Poverty History and fair trade
• Control Arms
• Labour rights

We carry out these campaigns by:

• Holding stalls at market days on-campus and in the community selling fair trade tea, coffee, chocolate and handicrafts

25 May: AGM held at Roppongi Japanese Restaurant, Wollongong. Thank you to all those who came for a really great night

9 May: 2nd annual UniCentre Cup Sports challenge (a great turnout by the Oxfamily!)

3 May: 4th Annual UOW Oxfam Trivia Night at the Master Builders Club, North Wollongong - WE RAISED $2,000 FOR OXFAM PROGRAMMES! A GREAT RESULT! THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO ATTENDED!

15-19 Apr: UOW Oxfam had a stall at the Soul in the City conference in Canberra, expertly managed by Melodie Willis

28 Mar: UOW Oxfam has was asked to set up a Close The Gap stall at the Keith Urban concert at WIN Entertainment Centre, a great opportunity to raise some awareness of the CTG campaign!

12 Mar: Market day at uni (lots of interest in the club and Oxfam products)

20 Feb & 27 Feb: O-Week Festival Clubs & Societies Day and Week 1 Clubs & Societies Day (a successful stall in terms of recruiting new members and chillin on the Duck Pond)

17 Jan 08: Helped out Smiths Hill High School with their Oxfam stall at the Illawarra Folk Festival at Bulli

9 Dec 07: Close The Gap stall at Missy Higgins' concert at WIN Entertainment Centre (we had overwhelming support for our petition)

17-18 Oct: Market days at uni selling fairtrade products (over $140 worth of stock sold...well done!)

16 Oct: End-of-year Combined Clubs & Societies Awards Night at Unibar

30 Sep - 8 Oct: Oxfam International Youth Parliament at Parramatta (we had five volunteers from our group helping with the event and, by all accounts, it was a really successful endevour...well done!)

20 Sep: Market day at uni selling fairtrade products

15 Sep: Fair trade stall at Cool Day Out (environmental festival), Smiths Hill High School

5 Sep: 'Control the arms trade' stall at UOW Amnesty Club's Fire Inside The Wire event for the Darfur crisis (our aim was to increase awareness of the role of the arms trade in the crisis. Amnesty raised over $6,000...good job!)

22-23 Aug: Market days at uni selling fairtrade products

16 Aug: Close The Gap campaigning at International Week (over 100 petitions and 30 photo petitions collected which we'll now be using these to lobby politicians to support Oxfam's Close The Gap campaign)

8 Aug: AGM held at uni (new executive elected)
