Students for Change in the Middle East is a new student-led national grassroots' movement dedicated to bringing about a real and distinctive change in American foreign policy toward the Middle East, particularly in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

We will provide a channel for American college students to communicate their desires and policy suggestions to President Obama on issues related to the Middle East.

WHY WE CARE

As students in the United States, far removed from the Middle East, it would be easy to remain apathetic about the Arab-Israeli conflict. However, as citizens of the world, committed to peace, human rights, and justice, we feel a sense of solidarity with those people in the region who are suffering on both sides of this issue. Following up on President Obama's call to service, we feel that it is within our power, as the college students of America, to pressure our government for change. Our dedication can make a huge difference. Not only do we want peace for those living in the region, but we also feel that taking a stand will help America to once again become a respected leader in the world.

The Arab-Israeli conflict is an issue that has divided and polarized college campuses for quite some time, but in recent days, the on-campus atmosphere has once again begun to heat up. Within this climate of tension, we feel it is time to take steps to unite us, to come together in support of the change that we so desperately seek. No matter what side of the issue we fall, we can all agree that striving for peace is of the greatest importance. Now's the time to act and make our voices heard, to speak up and pressure our leaders for change.

DEAR MR. PRESIDENT

In the spirit of change and action, we are kicking off the movement with a letter-writing campaign to President Barack Obama, informing our president of our commitment to peace and desire for an active, balanced, and even-handed U.S. role in the conflict. Join us in helping the people in Israel and Palestine, by pushing our government in the right direction. The battle did not end when Barack Obama became our 44th president, it has only just begun. Your support and signature will help to set a new course in the Middle East, rebuild America's standing in the world, and begin to repair the divides that have emerged on our campuses.

CAMPAIGN FOR CHANGE

This marks the beginning, the start of a new movement in which the voices of college and university students across America will finally be heard. Too often, we have been excluded from politics, pushed aside by special interest groups and Washington insiders. But WE are the change of today, the force that will push our country in a new direction. We will embody the progressive voice that will help to change America, bring peace to the Middle East, and unite the world.
