The University of Maryland, College Park Office of Sustainability is committed to promoting a greener and more sustainable campus as part of our participation in the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment.
Some of the projects we are currently working on include:
- Increasing student awareness of finished projects, such as the runoff cistern buried beneath Washington Quad and our status as an arboretum
- Adding new technology that would both enable computer labs to run off of one server and would automatically shut off all electronics when no motion is present in the room
- Adopting LEED certification restrictions for new buildings and ensuring that green cleaning products are being used in all current buildings
- Adopting low flow faucets and energy efficient lighting
