Description:: How did the Rhythm Rascals Project come about?

The idea of Rhythm Rascals came to two friends, Christy the talented musician and Pam the brainy actuary. They were inspired to spread the joy of music to children and the idea of a drum circle project soon came about. They spread the word to friends and soon picked up a keen psychology major in the dynamic form of May as a part of their team. A late night sent them into deep discussion and the next thing you know - the idea was set into motion.

A gung-ho mission of spreading the word resulted in the recruitment number of other willing youth volunteers such as members of the percussion group, Diplomats of Drum, who willingly committed their time to teaching the children about rhythm and beats. An enthusiastic and very late night (or early morning) conversation with her housemate and fellow psychology major, May managed to recruit zany Xinch to help with administrative and creative aspects of Rhythm Rascals.

Thus, the Rhythm Rascals Project and the team behind it were born.

So, what is the Rhythm Rascals Project about?

Rhythm Rascals is not an organization and neither is it affiliated to any. It is, however, an independent and non-profit project, run by a group of young adults who want to give the gift of music to underprivileged children.

How do we go about this?

We target orphanages that do not have regular, or any access, to musical education and spread the love by recruiting musicians, music lovers and volunteers to provide the children with free percussion lessons twice a month (or so).

What are we doing now?

Currently, the Rhythm Rascals Project is working with Agathians Shelter, providing the children at the center with the opportunity to learn music and to express themselves creatively.

What do we aim to achieve?

By bringing music into the lives of these children, we hope to make a difference in their lives. We aim to bring them hope and to expose them to a whole new world of music, drums and beats. We hope that music gives them a new perspective on life and opens up new doors to them.

In addition, we are organizing a fundraising event to help Agathians Shelter kick off their new project, which is to build a new home for the children. We aim to raise RM100,000 for this project. (read less)
