Our Center is dedicated to world peace, harmony, and mutual understanding among all people, in which nonviolent processes are used to resolve conflicts, foster reconciliation, and build the beloved community. We provide education, training, research, and leadership development opportunities nationally and internationally. We promote social justice and human rights based on the Kingian philosophy, principles, and practices of nonviolence.

1/08/09 - 1/11/09 - Center sponsored Civil Rights historical and educational tour in collaboration with the ZEPP Center for Nonviolence and Peace Education in West Minster, Maryland. The tour was lead by Dr. Bernard LaFayette and Charles Alphin.

1/27/09 - Tibetan Buddhist Monk, Thupten Tendar visits the Center for Nonviolence as the invited guest speaker for the annual MLK week Unity Luncheon sponsored by the URI Multicultural Center.

1/28/09 - Fire Under the Snow, documentary, special screening by film maker Makoto Sasa and Tibetan activist Sonam Wangdue.

2/10/09 - Emmanuel Jal, World Child, rapper, and author, visits campus and receives the Center's "Chaning the World One Song at a Time" Award.

2/12/09 - Red Hand Day, Student Nonviolence Committee sponsors a project to raise awareness about child soldiers and to participate in world wide initiative petitioning the UN to enforce its ban on child soldiers. Come to URI's Memorial Union from 10 am until 3 pm to offer your hand print and signature.

2/16/09 - Center Meeting

2/25/09 - First SNIC Meeting, Student run organization looking to get awareness on campus and to help spread nonviolence both on and off campus. 3:30 pm at MCC Rm 203.
