THE TRAPS formed in 2008 when band members Jamie Berry (vocals/guitar), Nick Berry (vocals/bass), James Minhas (lead guitar) and Dan Webb (drums) broke free of the small town backwaters where they first met to set about crafting music inspired by the bands and artists they loved.
Drawing inspiration from influences ranging from the street smart urban cool of The Ramones and The Clash, to the perfect pop of The Beach Boys, an ambitious approach to songwriting and recording is an integral part of the band’s focus. This has provided the platform from which they have built a widespread, ever-growing fanbase including household names from the world of popular music, Oasis legend Noel Gallagher and Ian Brown.
Extensive touring over the last year and a half has also seen the band become an impressive live force with key performances at Serbia’s Exit Festival, Secret Garden Party and most recent of all a string of shows in New York City culminating in a riotous performance at Lit Lounge in the East Village.
On Saturday the 28th February Birmingham band The Traps are set release their new EP ‘Luna’ for free from their new record label Speech Fewapy Records.
The three track EP is the first new material of 2009 for the band and includes lead track ‘Run You Down’, title track ‘Luna’,‘Molten Minds’ and stirring closer ‘Monument’. After disbanding to family homes over Christmas they set about writing and recording new ideas on their return to ‘Traps HQ’, and under the watchful eye of lead guitarist and producer (chief knob twiddler) James Minhas these fruitful home recordings grew legs and a plan was hatched for a free release to launch their label Speech Fewapy Records.
