Descarga is an Ames-based Latin dance group devoted to the teaching and appreciation of salsa, merengue, and bachata dance styles and music. Whether you’ve never set your foot on the dance floor or you’ve been dancing for years—you’ll love our group! Our Latin dance nights start off with a fun and easy-to-follow lesson from one of the area’s top salsa instructors and end with a dance party featuring the best in salsa, merengue, and bachata music.

IF YOU'RE A BEGINNER—please don’t feel intimidated! Our group has a fun, friendly, non-competitive atmosphere and we LOVE to see new faces! Come and bring your friends!

We are currently in the process of finding a new venue for our events but should have that worked out soon. Thanks to everyone for all their support in the past and we hope to see you at Descarga events when the semester starts! Please keep your eye open for messages from us as we will continue to get the details worked out for when/where our events will be held.

If you have an idea for a latin dance performance, feel free to send me an email when you're ready to perform and we'll set aside time during a Tuesday night for your performance. Please limit your performance to under 5 min.

If you have a salsa, merengue, bachata, or cha-cha song that you'd like to hear during our events, bring a copy to the party and we'll try our best to play it for you. If you bring 10 songs there's a good chance we will not be able to play them all in a row, but 1-3 songs is fine.
