Dear LGBT Caucus Members, Supporters, and Coalition Organizations, I am writing to share some breaking news highly relevant to our community. The Virginia Partisans Gay and Lesbian Democratic Club, which is the VA Chapter of Stonewall Democrats and our sister organization, has announced that they support Miles Grant ...for 47th District Delegate and Brian Moran for Governor on June 9th! Below you will find quotes from the Press Releases, links, and other information. The outcome of both these races will have a tremendous impact on the LGBT community and the equality movement in Virginia moving forward. While the LGBT Caucus cannot endorse a particular candidate in the primary, we would encourage everyone in the greater Arlington community to take time to review the Virginia Partisans' Press Releases and the various candidates stances on LGBT and equality issues. Further, it is incredibly important to all people - whether straight or lgbt, from Arlington or not, citizens of VA, DC, and MD - to get involved in these races through either financial contributions, volunteering, or just spreading the word. If we expect to see any movement on these critical issues, we must keep the VA Governorship blue and turn the House of Delegates blue. Involvement now - for any democratic candidate - will only serve to increase momentum for the November General Election. Action is critical! As always, thank you for you commitment and dedication to justice, fairness and equality! Kindly contact me with any questions. Sincerely, Tiffany M. Joslyn, Chair LGBT Caucus Arlington Young Democrats VA Partisans on Miles Grant - Quote: "Miles Grant stood out as the leader on equality issues from day one of this primary campaign. ... Miles Grant has demonstrated himself to be that leader – the candidate who stands the strongest with us, will fight the hardest for us, and fully understands what is against us. For his proud commitment to equality, the Virginia Partisans supports Miles Grant for Delegate in the Democratic Primary for the 47th District on June 9th." Read the full Press Release here: http://notlarrysabato.typepad.com/doh/2009/06/virginia-partisans-endorse-miles-grant-in-47th.html VA Partisans on Brian Moran - Quote: "'[I]n the primary, it’s clear that Brian Moran stands head and shoulders above the competition in terms of support for equality and LGBT rights.' ... 'There’s no question that he ‘gets it’ - and that he’s willing to stick his neck out on behalf of our community. We should all hope for - and work for - his nomination and election as Virginia’s next Governor!'” Read the full Press Release here: www.vapartisans.org ------- Read more about the candidates for 47th District Delegate at their campaign websites: Miles Grant: www.milesgrant2009.com Patrick Hope: www.hopefordelegate.com Alan Howze: www.alanhowze.com Adam Parkhomenko: www.voteadam.com Andres Tobar: www.andrestobar.com Read more about the candidates for Governor at their campaign websites: Brian Moran: www.brianmoran.com Creigh Deeds: www.deedsforvirginia.com Terry McAuliffe: www.terrymcauliffe.com -- Tiffany M. D.C. Gay Marriage Measure Set for Mayor's Signature - washingtonpost.com
An overwhelming majority on the D.C. Council voted today to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states, sending the District deeper into the national debate and galvanizing supporters on both sides of the issue.

This is a very exciting day for justice, fairness, and above all - equality! The statements by many of the council members were moving and wonderful, but have no doubt that there was much hate present in the room and by at least one member of the council. This is a great step for DC, but the real battle will likely come this summer. It's certainly time to stand up and unite for equality!Read More
