Uranium Mining is a dangerous activity that has harmful effects on the environment and all living things. Just recently, prospectors started staking land all over New Brunswick, including Hoyt, Harvey, Cambridge Narrows, Fredericton and Moncton. Some people believe that they will not be harmed because they are not living in these communities. The truth is, the radioactive tailings from the mining will get in the air and water, thus infecting animals, drinking water, crops, people etc. It is also known to cause different types of cancer and birth defects.

Some provinces have a ban on this type of mining. Nova Scotia is one such province. The people there stood up and defended their land, children and basic rights.

The government may say that this mining will create jobs and an economic boom. I do not think that this should be at the expense of families losing their homes and maybe even lives.
