As you know, Vassar... (read more)

UPDATE (4/15/09): Positive meeting with members of the English Department to move forward with creative preservation of VC creative writing. Note: budget cuts are inevitable.

UPDATE (3/29/09): It appears that the new vision at the college goes beyond the scope of this group. The President has been hired by the Trustees to make Vassar "more competitive" and "fiscally viable," and that's what she plans to do. Unfortunately, it appears her plans will involve huge layoffs of faculty and some shifts in priority. I don't think after her tenure it will be your mother's Vassar, so to speak. I'm meeting with the English Department in April to see what can be done to preserve creative writing at the college. Will send a report then.

UPDATE (1/30/09): Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College (AAVC) will work with our newly forming committee to host a reunion event for writers and alums of Vassar College Creative Writing (VCCW). That's progress!

UPDATE (1/13/09): Trying to figure out a way to formalize alumnae/i contributions to exclusively support the creative writing program, but meeting with institution resistance about restricted vs nonrestricted funds. (You'd think in this climate, they'd be happy that anyone is crazy enough to try to raise some big funds for the college for any purpose. But apparently not so.)
