The objective of this group is to make a noticeable impact on the power usage in the world.
One year from now, I would like to have had at least one paper or news-show mention the efforts of the members of this group as the cause for a measureable decrease in electric power usage.
To get there, I propose a simple, 4-step, "behavioural-change-program":
Step 1:
Any light or machine you turn on, turn it off when you leave the room or you no longer use the machine.
Step 2:
Begin turning off machines and lights around you, at home and at work, that don't have to be turned on.
If you enter an empty room with lights burning, TURN THEM OFF when you leave.
Step 3:
Install main switches for your major installations at home:
when you've finished using the TV, flip the swith, and PRESTO, you avoid spending money and wasting energy on stand-by modes for your TV, VCR, DVD, XBOX, PS2, Wii, cablebox etc(if you like you can add a remote control to your main switch, so that you don't even have to get up to flip the switch).
Add another main switch to your PC/Mac, monitor, printer, modem, external HD, USB-hub, speakers, WLAN and you save even more.
Basically, you can run on zero consumption during the night, except for your fridge/freezer, (and maybe your alarmclock).
And hey; don't leave your chargers in the sockets when you're done charging...!
Step 4:
Start getting other people to do what you do, at home, and at work!
Remember, you're supposed to be in control of the machines, not the other way around.
Ok, go do good! Lights out!
