Karen Reissmann is a mental health nurse in Manchester who was sacked for speaking out against cuts in the service and its privatisation. On the day she was suspended, the Trust sent her a letter promoting her to the highest grade of nurse, because she is so good at her job! Now she has been sacked for blowing the whistle on the cuts and exercising her right to free speech. 180 nurse colleagues are now on strike in her support - and they are regularly joined on the picket line by patients.
