All,

Following an epic trip (although, unfortunately not epic football) in Japan, Scotland return closer to home in a friendly in Cardiff in just under two weeks time. Preparations are nearly finalised and a healthy contingent of seven EFTA members will be travelling down by car the day before.

Elsewhere, due to the announcement of the Wales friendly, the AGM is returning to the traditional St. Andrew's weekend. The AGM will take place for the first time in Kirkcaldy at a restaurant to be decided. If you wish to attend, Mel is currently organising it. Please indicate if you can make it, along with the night(s) you can attend (Friday 27th or Saturday 28th November) and any preference of date or suggestions to Mel before Saturday 7th November.

There was a packed house at the Nellies who kindly hosted the poker last month. I (finally) claimed the first prize of £40, with Craig finishing second (£20) and Dave a respectable third (£12). With 8 players attending that night, The bonus poker pot now stands at £68. EFTA Poker takes a break over Christmas - it was intended to hold the final in December, however, we are now eyeing a date in January or February to avoid the busy Christmas period. Watch this space.

Elsewhere, playing in Fife, the Under-17s crashed out of the first qualifying round for the Euro 2011 tournament against Portugal, Georgia and Cyprus despite a decent debut for Islam Feruz. Feruz is likely to be playing in the Victory Shield match against the Auld Enemy later this month at Tynecastle. Scotland are currently in pole position to win the trophy.

Looking ahead, the Scotland A team play the Czech Republic at home in March next year and are likely to play a further two friendlies next May.

Match Tickets

All match tickets for Wales are now allocated - all SSC members who applied got tickets.

Tickets cost £20 and payment is due to the respective purchasers.

Tickets for the home friendly against the Czech Republic are likely to be on sale in January.

Forthcoming EFTA and Tartan Army events:

Saturday 14th November 2009, k.o. 1500, Wales vs Scotland, Friendly - Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff

Scotland's last international match of the year takes place in Cardiff a week on Saturday. Two vehicles (mine and Jimmy's) will be departing from Fife on Friday morning - Jimmy's will call at Broxburn, mine will call at Edinburgh and Glasgow (provisional). The aim is to arrive in Cardiff late Friday afternoon / early evening.

EFTA HQ is the Radisson BLU Hotel in an excellent position in central Cardiff.

The return journey is on Sunday and it is suggested that we stop somewhere in the western Midlands for a pub lunch to break the journey up.

Friday 20th November 2009 TBC, 1900 onwards - EFTA Burntisland Poker Grand Prix - Landale Place, Burntisland

The Riddells are your genial hosts for the last EFTA poker event of the year. Contact Dave Riddell for further details and to advise of your attendance.

Friday 27th or Saturday 28th November 2009 TBC, 1800 onwards - Eastern Front Tartan Army AGM - Kirkcaldy

Mel to arrange - as indicated, please contact her by the end of this Saturday so that we can get an idea of dates and numbers.

Members and partners welcome, although you have to have attended a Scotland home or away game as part of EFTA at some stage in the past to qualify for voting rights.

Saturday 30th January 2010, time tbc - WESTA Burns Supper - Òran Mór, Byres Road, Glasgow

The West of Scotland Tartan Army's showpiece event is due to take place on Saturday 30th January. Three members from the current EFTA committee have taken up the kind offer of tickets for this event. Arrangements to be finalised by the committee in due course. I will be seeking the £30 ticket money shortly.

Sunday 7th February 2010 - ALL DAY - Euro 2012 Qualifying Draw - Standing Order, George Street, Edinburgh

The big event - the Euro 2012 qualifying draw, live from Warsaw. An all day session is inevitable. Cancel all other plans. It is currently proposed to meet in the Standing Order for the traditional draw breakfast and slowly get steaming at various locations in central Edinburgh as the high heid yins of UEFA decide what near or far flung places we end up in over the next two years.

Wednesday 3rd March 2010, k.o. 2000 - Scotland vs Czech Republic, Friendly - Hampden Park, Glasgow

The next home match is due to take place in March. Tickets likely to go on sale in January.

Cheers,

Barry
