- Raw, honest indie rock n’ roll from a bunch of hardworking lads with an incredible ability to pen an addictive chorus line – The Daves self-released debut single, ‘Not in England’ hit the UK in May 2008, reaching the Top 100 of the UK singles chart – such was demand it held it’s position on the iTunes front page for 5 weeks. This is premium British talent akin to the likes of Oasis and The Stones and after an extensive 2008 tour. The Daves are seriously on track to follow the success of their predecessors.
The Daves are: Jim (singer), Pete (guitar) and brothers Johnny (bass) & Dave (drums). All East London lads, brought together as kids by their passion for football and music, the boys cemented their friendship through school. They blagged their first proper gig in Belgium under the name of ‘Snatch', where they played Oasis, Beatles, Stones and Small Faces covers to a crowd of over 1,000 football fans.
The band caught their first break when they met Aziz Ibrahim (Stone Roses, Ian Brown, Weller) who was so impressed by their raw talent that he invited them to play Glastonbury, where they left a Friday night crowd awe struck with their performance.
The Daves’ initial recordings were captured during the 2007 Tequila Sessions and collated into a mini-album called ‘Forever Happy’. It didn’t take long before the powers at Warner Chappell in Los Angeles were summoning the boys for serious chats, opening the doors to meetings with the likes of producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin & Iron Maiden) and spending precious studio time in Malibu music studios. This led to their track ‘April’s Shower’ being included on the album ‘Riot on Sunset’ – a compilation of all the best new breaking bands in LA and California. The same song also won them XFM’s Unsigned Artist of the week.
At a gig in early 2008 they met producer and engineer, John Pennington (Moby, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets) who offered to mix ‘Not in England’. This lead to John Astley (The Who, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Clapton) inviting the band to his London studio to master the tracks.
Recognizing the potential international appeal of ‘Not in England’, US Record Label, Vertigram signed The Daves in November 2008 and enlisted veteran American Radio DJ/Producer DJ Riddler to reconstruct the single into a dance version which has opened the song to a new audience. Riddler has demonstrated the remix-ability with ‘Not in England’ with his production. “This single can definitely be turned into a club anthem in various styles ranging from Electro, Progressive, House, Trance.” says DJ Riddler. Following the success of the dance version in the US, Vertigram are now preparing to release the full, original version of the track stateside.
The Daves are pure British talent primed to be unleashed to a world audience. Representing everyday working class heroes from all walks of life, these boys understand what it’s like to live on the sharp-end and their music promises to touch and ignite passion.
