Co-Creator of MVP, Kent Staines, is busy developing new television shows, in addition to having received an Ontario Arts Council Grant and a grant from The Canada Council to write the musical version of his hit CTV movie Prom Queen. He'll be writing the book, with the music written by Stratford's Jonathon Monro. WHAT THE CRITICS SAY!
"MVP is the one I've seen and, well, it rocks. It's a drama about the antics - mainly canoodling - of NHL players and their wives and girlfriends. It's strictly off-ice shenanigans. Having seen several episodes I can assure you it's funny, barbed, sexy and adorable - a great prime-time soap. From the alluring opening credits, with the sound of Sloan's Who Taught You to Live Like That, it's all-out high-octane high jinks.
Yes, it's doughnut-TV, but damn fine sugary-sweet stuff. If CBC is going the Tim Hortons route, MVP is the way to do it. It starts in January, on a Friday night - a tricky timeslot for such a show - and I'm willing to skip the hearty lunch to feast on it. Bring on the dark winter nights."
