. . . . . . .
Mistakes happen. But when a mistake causes 58,000 gallons of fuel to spill into our bay, threatening it's fragile ecosystem for decades to come - it's simply not acceptable.
On November 7, 2007 the Cosco Busan Cargo Ship struck a supporting tower of the Bay Bridge. Over 58,000 gallons of oil spilled from the ship contaminating the San Francisco Bay waters and threatening our fragile ecosystem. Reports for most of the day following the accident said that only 140 gallons had spilled. The surrounding cities and counties had no idea of the severity and sheer magnitude of the problem for many hours. Clean up was slow at the beginning and to date only a third of the bunker fuel have been removed from the bay.
Let's tell our Governor, Mayors, State Representatives and Congress that they must clean up our bay quickly and thoroughly, fully investigate this accident and the delayed response to it, and do everything in their power to prevent it from ever occurring again!
