In a country where the government has taken complete control of the nation, where a president became a dictator, where the people lived in fear, lives one girl who learns what it's like to live in one of the Philippines' most historical times. Under the Marcos regime, Luning-ning and her friends come of age during martial law. While in Manila, they cannot escape the realities of oppression and are propelled to fight against the injustices of their people. Bayan follows Luning-ning's life against the backdrop of the tumultous period from the beginning of martial law to the People Power movement that ended the Marcos regime.
