The Beaufoy Institute was an educational establishment created in 1907 and a stunning Grade II listed building, currently on English Heritage's "At Risk" list and in a state of neglect. It has been unused for a decade. Lambeth Council (Vauxhall, Prince's Ward) is currently spending £70,095 per year to keep it empty.
Currently, the Charity Commission are deciding whether the building should be put on the open market or not. It is not clear how long that decision will take to make. According to Lambeth council, there are no specific long-term plans in place for the building. It is, apparently, structurally sound.
Would it not be better if the Beaufoy Institute were redeveloped from the grassroots upwards - as a 21st century educational institution for the local community?
