What is an "Open Call"?
The WGBH Lab Open Call is an invitation for you to make a completed video short and share it with the world. To kick-start your process, we add a compelling theme and open content video clips for your use. Now we need YOUR fresh take and YOUR feedback.
Upload your short and follow it as our online community watches, reviews, and rates it. We call this Social Production, a crucial part of sharing your story with the world. Engage with other media makers, discuss your experience, and make your voice heard.
Naturally, we like educational. Be creative, be factual, be thoughtful—after all, in making and unleashing your short, you are engaging with the world.

Invitation to this fall’s Open Call: Life Stories
In collaboration with Nova and PBS Engage, the WGBH Lab continues its seventh year with a new Open Call: “Life Stories.” Inspired by Nova’s spotlight programming on Darwin and evolution, this Open Call is a marriage of science and creativity. The Lab challenges the general public, independent media makers, and emerging talent to consider their own compelling perspectives or “life stories” to craft unique videos, and share their vision with the world.

We've just posted 6 of our Election Stories shorts produced from YOUR pitches: there's a piece about students campaigning to save their ethnic studies program, a pop-up-video style meditation on whether your vote makes a difference, and a character study of a guy who has legally changed his name to Uncle Sam. And that's just the first three!

There's everything from a look at Green Collar jobs to a mini biopic on a man who thinks he's Uncle Sam. Take a look and offer the filmmakers your input on how they could be improved -- no thought is too small to include!
