Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) is the oldest women's organization in Afghanistan. It was established in 1977 by Meena and some other women, its assassinated leader.
RAWA is a political anti-fundamentalist organization that struggles for peace, freedom, democracy, social justice, secularism and women's rights.
RAWA is against the US/NATO occupation of Afghanistan with the slogan "Neither the US nor Jehadis and Taliban, Long Live the Struggle of Independent and Democratic Forces of Afghanistan!"
The appalling and worsening condition of women in Afghanistan is the driving force in RAWA's struggle. RAWA also has orphanages, literacy courses for girls and women, income-generating projects for women, schools and clinics in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
RAWA works semi-underground due to a lot of security problems they face from the secret service of Afghanistan (KHAD) and the fundamentalists in power and other intelligence agencies.
