Friends,

I've just finished reading a memo from the chief economist of the World Bank in the 90's, suggesting that we export our toxic waste to poor countries because we will all save money in the long run (the logic is that health costs are measured in wages lost and poor people make less money and -here's the tricky bit- thus have less value).

The message: now is a good time to fight the power.

So, whether you're a veteran or a first-time visitor, come to Amnesty for our opening meeting in Fall semester 2008.

One more note: BYU now recycles plastic. If this doesn't excite you as much as it does me, let's talk. I have some FURIOUS FACTS to share about plastic production, waste, disposal, and incineration. There are a dozen recycling bins for plastic in the Wilkinson Student Center as a pilot program to determine whether to keep recycling plastic next year. This means go there, recycle #1 and #2 bottles, and do it right. This is the first progress towards more responsible campus recycling programs I've ever seen, after years of student advocacy.

Peace,

Tristan and the Amnesty Crew
